I've seen classrooms that run so smoothly with 28 middle school age kids and then classes of 20 that are utter chaos. Seems that the teacher's ability to manage the room of so many personalities is essential.

Christy Your point is well made, Stellaluna. I feel fortunate to be in a district that has added a section of 2nd grade to prevent classes of 30+. Classes will still be larger than 20, but so much better than over 30.

Rin Crowd control is all you can do with too many kids. There is no time for indivivual instruction of differentiation..

BJ Sometimes it's the students. A group of 15 students that don't mesh can be harder to teach than 30 that care and respect one another.

Teri I've always felt that every student added over 25 feels like 10. It just makes everything more difficult--classroom management, accomodations, documentation, and differentiation.
