I could definitely use some help here! I have one class, first grade, with at least 5 children who are bouncing off the walls in here. I know there are some sites that create a lot of noise in here, like starfall.com. I lower volume on every computer, but the children know how to control it so they turn it up. Some of the more hyper kids can't even let me get a sentence out without asking a question or making a noise or gesture that distracts everyone else.

What works in your lab? How do you manage these children? Has anyone tried the buddy system?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

My first few weeks have been to introduce the 1st graders to my rules for behavior and rules for using the computers in my room. I've only done one program (ms paint)and really watching how they use the computers.

newtech Thank you for all of the wonderful ideas. I am a first year teacher, so I am learning the hard way that laying down the "law" has to be a priority or the class will end up owning me. I have found several things that work with this class. Constant recognition, "Good Job" and "I like the way you...." work very well. They respond well to praise.

Scott Headphones (along with a little behavior modification) are certainly the answer! If money is a problem then I suggest recycling your school's toner cartridges. Staples and other organizations will give you credit for the empties which you can exchange for headphones.

Not all sites make a lot of noise! Check out my visually kid friendly sit...See More

CompTeacher One thing I have found helpful with ADD/ADHD kids is to have them turn off their monitors when giving instruction. Sometimes I have the whole class do that because they can't focus on what is on the screen at the same time they are trying to focus on instruction.
