    I am retired so I don't have anything to add for question 1.

    The book that probably had the most profound change for me at
    the time (an aha moment, if you will) was "You Can't Say You
    Can't Play"

    Jan Richardson's book Guided Reading was my "go to" book for
    teaching reading. It worked and the kids liked it, especially the
    sight word activities.
