New teachers, how can we help you? What do you need from your assigned mentors that you're not getting? Sometimes we try to help and we don't really know what you need.

Here's an example. A few years ago, we had 2 new teachers at my grade level. The other vet and I gave them a year-long curriculum overview for all subjects and taught them how to do daily plans for reading, writing, and math. They spent all of their time before school started decorating their rooms--while we were planning individually for our classes. I think we probably overwhelmed them, but I still don't know what we could have done differently. What do you think?

Another example. This year, while my student teacher was on her takeover, I went into the class of a new teacher and taught her writer's workshop--as a model for her.

What do you need? How can we best help you?
