The question is, "What is wrong with this society and its attitude toward sex." All you have to do is count the ways in which we teach young men that "real men" should be able to have sex with numerous women - and without an emotional connection (e.g. James Bond). Certainly, some men escape this emotionless trap, but we are discussing Harvey Weinstein and other such men.

This thinking is so ingrained in our society that even some women have this attitude for their sons. An anecdotal story! Once while working in the lab before the beginning of a class in microbiology, a group of women were sitting at a lab table and discussing their children. One woman said, "My son is so good looking, when he grows up, he will have lots of women."

As a male that escaped the trap, I could not leave this alone and said, "You do not want him to have lots of women. You want him to have one relationship with one woman." Suddenly, the other women, who had been silent before, agreed!

In the end, most young men are told to suppress their emotions, because men should be strong. Yet, we allow men two emotions. First, they are allowed to have a need for sex, but it is sex unconnected to any emotion that makes them look weak. And the second, it is okay for men to get angry!

For example, if you hurt a young man's feelings. If you create disappointment, or whatever. The response will be the same for all, anger!

I guess the point to this is, we have heard lots about discrimination of various forms inflicted on young women. We have heard how young women must deal with lower expectations and being viewed as less powerful in relationships, and such things should not happen.

However, we assume young men should be strong enough to deal with whatever is thrown their way. This means the awful things (such as being bullied) that might be happening to them in their adolescents are ignored, because real men don't complain. Real men are strong and can deal with things on their own!

The truth is, the young men are humans, just like the young women. Both have feelings and emotions that need to be part of being a human! IMHO, it will be decades before this country starts to deal with the problems of young men the way the society is now trying to deal with the problems of young women.

PS: If you would like an example of this in the extreme, you need only look to football. This is a sport that tells young men, even in the face of painful injury, you say nothing and keep going! Even if it kills you! If a young man is taught to be this strong and emotionless - even emotionless about the violence against their opponents - why should it surprise anyone that this attitude shows up in male-female relationships.
