I run a preschool in my home and just found out that one of my children left because I don't do enough worksheets or flashcards. In fact, I don't do any of those things because 1.) I don't believe they are developmentally appropriate and 2.) they do plenty of that in all day kindergarten around here, I want them to be kids for just a bit longer. I also don't do letter of the week, because I believe that teaching the alphabet as a whole helps them retain the letters better. Is my thinking arccaic? I have a degree in Early Childhood, but haven't been teaching in a school setting for almost 6 years, is worksheets and flashcards what they do now? Thanks!
MsSpider Developmentally appropriate preschools dont spend a lot of time doing work sheets and flash cards. :) When I use any sort of flashcards it is to play a game with, like fishing for colors. If I use worksheets they are a free choice activity and something like cut and paste.
