I currently teach 2 1/2 day sessions of prek in a public school and have 20 students in each class. (I've taught 4 in prek and 10 in kinder - in kinder I used a behavior chart) I don't have a lot of discipline issues but have a couple in each class that would benifit from a "change your color" type thing to self regualte. Anyway at the beginning of the year both classes came up with (on their own) rules - like listening ears, helping hands, etc. For the first time I also let them come up with the consequence. THey came up with if you don't listen, use helping hands or if you hurt someones feelings with ugly words you don't get a stamp for that day. Well on a whole its worked - up until the last 2 weeks. I've had about 2-3 students who are just NOT listening. Not giving them a stamp just isn't working.... I personally feel that having a clothespin for each child (40 clothespins) is just ALOT to keep up with especially for just 3 hours. But I need some ideas??? Any??? THanks!
Leah Explain to the children that they need to come up with a new consequence that is more effective.

It's too complicated at this level. And don't forget the rule that says you need to give three positive reinforcements for every negative! Which I think DOES work, but ...See More
