I have been given the primary level comprehension toolkit and am wondering how others use it and what success/growth they have seen with it. Also, how do you use it? Guided reading groups, whole group, etc.?
The Tools for Success "Effectiveness is not a fleeting concept. What it takes to be effective and how to achieve it is known. This month we share with you four successful educators who have seen the benefits of having successful teachers and know how to bring about these benefits."

We've spent money on 3 different pe programs in the last 10 years, 3 different writing programs in the same amount of time. Why don't we stick with one and be done with it?
Our school's morale is so low you can't pick it up with a shovel. Our principal wants to hear no complaints and expects us to take care of all problems dealing with kids and parents. We're pretty much on our own.
I've been using Wong's techniques and have seen a great improvement in my classroom among my students and parents. My student teacher introduced me to Wong. She and I had a great time planning and implementing. I was doing a lot of things he suggests but found even more that I could be doing.
Why is is so hard for those in authority to want to do better? When I first read Wong's book I showed it to my principal and even suggested a DVD or CD he could order. That's been 2 months ago. Nope, not a word and probably won't either.
I'd love to finish my career at a school or district that really wants to be the best at educating kids. I just go to my room, share my ideas with those who will listen and watch my kids grow. Too bad the rest of my school won't be able to taste what I've had.
Thanks for listening.

I was sitting in the interview for my first teaching job, it was just about over and I got asked one more question. "What should your principal do for you?" Oh man! I haven't really thought about that. Stay calm I'm thinking to myself. Where do I start? Don't let it show that you weren't prepared for this question; especially since it's the principal asking it! I composed my thoughts quickly and said, "My principal should be my supporter, role model for the whole school, and a person who encourages me and others to continue to grow and do our best. The principal should be able to provide constructive feedback in a positive way, as we know that is best teaching practices, and be willing to assist when it is needed. My principal should be a sounding board, be the person to set the climate of the school, and be the liaison between the staff, district, and when needed, parents. "
I wasn't sure that was the most effective answer but I got the job so it must not have been too bad.
I am terrified of the math on the Praxis I. I think with hard work and some tutoring I could pass it but can anyone tell me if the Praxis II also has more math to overcome?
I am thinking that this whole Praxis situation is showing me that I could never be a teacher. Any thoughts or advice?
I am recruiting elementary teachers (Grades 1-5) to participate in an online study examining how teachers evaluate school-based consultation services for students with reading difficulties. Your participation in this research will provide important information about the factors that may influence the perceived value and effectiveness of school psychological services. You will also learn strategies for working with children with reading difficulties.
If you are an elementary teacher and would like to participate, you will be asked to click on the link below. This link will direct you to an online survey that contains two video clips depicting a school psychologist and teacher discussing strategies to help a child with reading difficulties. You will be asked to complete 45 rating scale items following the videos. The total time necessary to complete the study is 15 to 25 minutes. All participants who complete the study will be entered into a raffle contest to win prizes including a cash prize of $100.00.
To participate in the study, please click on the following link (or cut and paste the link into your web browser):

One student that I have struggles so much with reading. This student has already held back in Kinder and I've had an SST (Student Support Team) meeting and I have tried many different things to bring up the reading. What has me puzzled is this student is a great speller and spells almost every word correctly when writing indpendently in the journal. I'm stumped.
Another student that I have often breaks down when confronted with work that this student feels can't be done. What I mean is there is a break down without even trying to do the work. This child cries even when I develop the lesson to fit the needs of this child. There is no parent support at home.
It has been a year since I was declared post-menopausal. I have at least 2 hot flashes a night and at least 3 during the day. Thank goodness I don't get the sweats, too. I am getting really tired of these. I am burning up one minute and freezing the next. How long will this go on and what can I do about it?
