What are some uses you've found for desktop carrels, and what do you call them?

Can your kids decorate their own in their own way like the ones advertised at the top of this page?

Judy2/CA We call them study carrels - I make them myself out of file folders. The kids do decorate them at the beginning of the year and I've never noticed that they are distracting, especially after they've been looking at the same carrel all year. We only use them when taking tests.

Mine are "Purple Privacy Walls" Found some 11x17ish sized cardboard peices when I first got the job years ago: purple on one side, white on the other side, . I taped 3 together and they trifold to fold flat. I store them in a basket... Basket easily fits 20. They are holding up nicely... well loved which has only made them fold easier! :)

Privacy Folders Mine are made out of light blue poster board, cut in half, overlapped, stapled, and folded into 3rds. The kids fold them and keep it in their desk. They are used for every test. I teach 2nd grade and we call ours "Secret Keepers"
