A fellow teacher told me to discipline the kids using "color cards" Purple is Excellent, Green is Above-Average, Blue is Average, Red is Okay, Orange is not so good and Yellow is horrible. I don't know if this is a good idea, please post follow-ups! - Olivia from MA.

Sarah Olivia, My son, who is in 1st grade, loves this system. He knows to tell me each day which card he was on at the end of the day. If he is still on green, then he had a great day. Ann/2/CA They are a great visual for the kids, but remember that turning one's card is not the punishment. There still have to be consequences for misbehavior.

question about privacy I personally don't use this system, but understand that many do. I forget the name of the plan that was common in our area for quite a long time, but basically if a child misbehaved you wrote their name on the board.
