I am doing Daily 5 with my K/1 combo class for the first time this year. I have been thrilled with the results for most of the year. The kids were actively engaged while I did reading groups and I did not have to spend hours planning new centers each week. But, lately, the kids seem to be getting restless. They are starting to fool around instead of working and I am spending more time redirecting kids. Any one else had this problem? Is it just spring fever? We have spring break next week, so I am hoping after the break they will be more motivated again. Any ideas out there to help spice up Daily 5 and get us through another 46 days of school??? I REALLY don't want to go back to worksheep packets or centers.....

Chris I'm also doing Daily 5 with my K/1 class for the first time this year, with similarly good results. I only do it three days a week, so I haven't run into the trouble you've had (yet). What about giving them time to share at the end of a session, to show what they've accomplished? That might motivate them and give you a chance to encourage the kind ...See More
