I signed my contract today. The k4 teacher was let go due to low enrollment for her class. The 1st grade and 2nd are leaving for personal reasons. We think the science teacher will not be renewed. The principal said today that she could offer only 6 contracts now. This whole mess stinks!

OP I was right, it was the science (8th grade homeroom) who was not renewed. She was having trouble with students, parents and some other teachers. And there are only 4 signed up for 8th grade. Both the 1st and 2nd grade teachers are moving to other cities. Hopefully, enrollment will increase and/or a money tree will grow on the school grounds and we ...See More

Anon With so few students, are they even going to offer 8th grade? A lot of private schools are in the same boat. If you find a money tree, let us know. :)

OP If there are only 4 8th graders, they might not have an 8th grade homeroom (since the teacher was not renewed) and have them be taught in a double grade type set-up. How that will work out with grades 5-8 changing classes,I don't know. How the other 3 teachers will find the time (or the interest)to prepare the science lessons, I don't know. This pa...See More

Kimberly I'm on my third Catholic school. My first was 16 years, then 1 year, then a year subbing, currently 5 and counting at my current school. I can tell you that if your school doesn't aggressively try to increase enrollment, then it will continue to decline.
