I am leaving my current school to take another Call. Although I have a tenured Call, I work for 10 months like a classroom teacher and am paid over 12 months. My current school/church thinks they do not need to pay me for the summer months since I am leaving. I think this is crazy. This means that my salary for teaching the past school year will be cut short by 20%. I think they owe me. What do you all think?
They owe you! You worked your contract time- 10 months., Your salary was spread over 12 months though, so you have already earned the 2 months salary for the summer.

It is not only crazy. It is illegal, too. Some states have a labor relations board for situations when employers refuse to pay salaries earned. Check into it.

Good luck.

Jean Bullock The previous poster is correct. Spreading out the salary over 12 months makes it easier for the school to pay bills. Every state has some department that handles that sort of thing. If they don't, send them a letter of demand and take them to court. They will lose and end up paying court costs as well.
