I am looking for effective strategies for teaching students to read aloud in unison and to respond in unison to questions about readings, such as the way students respond in the SRA reading program, when the answer is one which all students should be able to produce immediately. Suggestions for starting off the school year with a new group unaccustomed to choral response?
GailMA When I was using Reading Mastery with a group of first and second grade students I trained them to wait for a visual or auditory signal, such as snapping my fingers or tapping the page before giving a response in unison. cc I am familiar with direct instruction, and the choral responses. That just needs to be practiced and taught, and repeated until the students do it the way you want them to.

I came across this idea as I was looking for new inspiration for the year...it is something I would like to try, and maybe would work for you as well!
