Does anyone use a Social Studies or Science text that they really like? Ours seem like they are really too hard for the kids to understand without a tremendous amount of time involved. The students I have this year are fairly good readers, yet if I don't spend time reading the text with them and explaining it to death, they don't seem to get much out of it. I feel like at 4th and 5th grade, we need to be able to spend more time on reading skills and less time explaining so much Science and Social Studies content. Any suggestions?
