I have been doing 100 day with my first graders for the
last couple of years. Last year each day we opened a
window on Scholastic's 100 day calendar (like a giant
advent calendar) and did the activity. We talked about
even/odd tens and ones for "the number of the day" & etc.
On 100 day and week we do special activities, have a party,
kids bring their artistic creation made from 100 items.

At 6 yrs. old, especially, does this really contribute to
their number sense? IS THIS ACADEMICALLY MEATY ENOUGH TO
BE WORTH STUDENTS' TIME OR JUST A ROUTINE? I'm kind of
getting tired of it. Maybe some other math activites for
calendar time would be better, something that changes a bit
more from day to day. On the other hand, I have seen
mastery through repetition of concepts. What do you think?

thought was cute at another school I was visiting. Each
student made a poster of 10 groups of 10 things each.
Together this added up to 100 and I'm guessing they had the
