Hi everyone, any help would be so appreciated. I will make it as short as possible.

I am a career changer (to teacher) so I'm on the alternative certification track. I am so excited and I've even been taking classes on teaching (no credit classes, even!) to learn as much as possible.

In 2013, when I was testing the waters on this new career track, I applied for my Statement of Eligibility. It said the only requirement was to take my subject are exam. I had taken the CLAST prior to 2002 so that satisfied my GKT. I finally finished me K-6 subject area exam. I re-applied for my Statement of Eligibility in June and am still waiting. However, I noticed something on the FL Dept of Education website: in 2014, the Florida legislature changed the provision of taking the CLAST before 2002 in lieu of the GKT. I was crushed.

My question is: do I now have to wait and take the GKT to apply for teaching jobs or can ap...See More
flteacher I believe you have one year to complete GKT after you got hired. If you pass your subject area exam , you only need your Statement of Eligibility to apply. I got hired after I passed Elementary K-6 subject area exam and finished my GKT while working last year. I had my Statement of Eligibility ... I hope this helps, good luck.

School2018 Once you have your eligibility form you can apply and have one year to complete GKT. I took the CLAST as well and passed it the first try. Don't be discouraged if you have to take come portions of the GKT more than once.
