Does anyone know how it is to work in either Fulton or Gwinnett Counties? I'm a language arts/ESOL teacher. I've heard good things about Gwinnett. How about Fulton? Thank you in advance for any information you give.

I had a horrible experience with a bad administrator in Gwinnett . She was fired and she is working in another county as a teacher not as an administrator. I don't work there anymore either. It was so stressful.
My wife and I recently moved to Cherokee County (Woodstock GA) and are having trouble finding her work. She has all of her teaching certifications, a bachelor's from an accredited school, and is working on her master's degree from the same university. She's also going on two years of elementary school, self-contained classroom, special education teaching experience.
We don't really understand how the surrounding counties hire, but have heard that most posting that go up around this time of year are filled internally, they are just posted up for legal reasons. The real job listings will appear from January-June.
My wife has applied to around 30 positions in Cobb and Cherokee with no call backs of any kind. Can we expect to see more success from the months of January-June? Are there any job fairs we could attend? We are in the dark in these areas, so I'm not sure how to go about giving her a leg up. Any advice would be extremely appreciated.

ATLTeacherI know this is late but a good site to use is teachgeorgia.org. Special ed is usually a field in demand so it might have just been that area.

I am teaching in a state Charter school for Fulton county. We only have 40 min planning time per day and recess duty everyday. The rumor is now, that the principal wants us to have our lunch breaks in the cafeteria with the students (lack of custodians,.. helpers,..) Is it legal? Unfortunately our contract does not say much about legal breaks, etc? Can anyone help with the matter? Thanks
ATLTeacherSince Fulton is a charter district, they can set some different rules. For example, a public school is supposed to allow for 30 minute lunch. Fulton allows for 23 in some schools. You may want to check with the charter organization for the state. I'm not sure of the name but the principals have some flexibility, which can be detrimental overall.
Can teachers collect unemployment if they get fired? Just wondering if teachers are exempt for any particular reason or if it works the same for everyone who gets fired. Thank you.
A teacher cannot break a contract for a promotion. A teacher may request to be released from their contract to accept a position in a another district with increased responsibility, prestige and salary. This is an agreement in metro Atlanta. Nothing in Georgia law requires a district to release you from a contract. What if the district decided to just break your contract and you were unemployed the next day? How would you feel?
