I am an out-of-state teacher who has just started teaching at a Cherokee County middle school. Our principal informed us that we are allowed a total of 4 sick leave/personal leave days for the entire school year. The staff was told that even with a doctor's note teachers would be put on an action plan after 5 absences and possibly be dismissed if there were 7 or more missed school days during the year. If you are sick enought to go to a doctor and are truly unwell, how can someone be expected to effectively teach? This attendance policy seems illegal and possibly dangerous to public health.
Samantha That sounds...wrong. I have taught in two counties in the metro area and in each we accrued 1.5 days per month (I think) for a total of ten or so per year. Of those we could use three for announced personal days and the others were for unexpected illness.
