Hi...I teach third grade in Elizabeth, New Jersey. I think it would be fun to do this that is my home e-mail address.....I have 16 children in my class.....talk to you soon...
My name is Courtney Wright and I am a graduate of Peabody College of Vanderbilt with secondary certification (7-12) in English. Currently, I am a graduate student at Northwestern University working under the direction of Dr. Michael E. Roloff in the Department of Communication Studies with a concentration in Interaction and Social Influence. For my 2nd year project, Professor Michael E. Roloff and I are conducting a research study entitled, Classroom justice, principled dissent, and tenure status: Instructor reactions to perceived unfairness (IRB Project # 0423-055). The purpose of this research study is to explore instructor perceptions of, and reactions to, justice violations within school policies and procedures.
I am in desperate need of a population to sample and thus I am asking you, my fellow educators, if you would be willing to volunteer for my study and complete a questionnaire (the link is provided below). I am very interested in having your viewpoints included in this study and would greatly appreciate your being willing to spare a little bit of your time (approximately 45 minutes) to help a fellow educator and hardworking graduate student. The Northwestern University Institutional Review Board (IRB) has approved this research study and your participation will be completely confidential.
Please be gracious enough to complete and return the questionnaire [link provided below] via email. Directions to guide you through this technological process are included below. Because this is a “snowball” survey, we (Professor Roloff and myself) would appreciate it if you would forward this email to at least two fellow educators, one with tenure status and one without. We will appreciate any, and all input we receive regarding instructor perceptions of justice violations in school policies and procedures. Thank you in advance for your support!
Feel free to email me at c-[email removed].
Sincerely,
Dr. Michael E. Roloff, Faculty Investigator m-[email removed]
Courtney N. Wright, Co-Investigator c-[email removed]

Hi my name is Kate and I am moving to Maine next year. I have been working in New York City in Televison and have a bachlors degree in Communications with a minor in History. I now what to become a full time teacher in Maine. I would love any advice on how to go about this . Is there a state certification program ? Has anyone else changed there career to teaching at 32 ? Thanks for all you help.
Several of the teachers on our staff are career changers. Teaching is a demanding job, and if you have no previous experience working with children in a classroom setting, then you might volunteer one or two days a week. A good alternative licensure program will require this kind of experience.
Although Maine, like many other states, will lose teachers to retirement in the next few years, Maine is also losing students, so there's no looming teacher shortage. Unless you want to compete against hundreds of other applicants, stay away from elementary ed. and secondary social studies/history. Every year there are special ed. openings in many schools. Many special ed. teachers find the work very rewarding while others get burned out on paperwork, regulations, and meetings. Since you have a background in communication, you might look into K-12 ESL (teaching English as a Second Language) certification. Maine does not have a large ESL population, but there are fewer applicants for each opening.
Im looking for a teacher interested in joining a Postcard Exchange with schools from all 50 states. We have several states already participating, but we do need a school from Maine. It can be any grade level, incorporating this activity into a lesson for any grade is appropriate. If you are interested please email me with your school address and I will reply with a listing of all the schools participating so far. Thank you! -Liz [email removed]
I will be moving to Maine in December. I am beginning the application process and have a few questions. If I already have current licenses in two other states (Colorado and Virginia), do I still need to take the tests? I can't seem to find the answer on the DOE website.
Beth, There should be a phone number on the DOE web site. Also you might try to locate the Maine state licensing (spelling?) board for teachers in Maine. That's what I did when I moved to Texas. Good luck! I hope and pray that you don't have to retest! Laststraw On 10/30/05, Beth wrote: > I will be moving to Maine in December. News Release
TEACHERS STUDY IN IRELAND
Galway, Ireland – “It was the best and most enjoyed learning experience in my long history of college and university study,” said one teacher about last year’s 23- day study trip, Seminar: Education in Ireland. Teachers and administrators spent three weeks at the National University of Ireland, Galway as students of how education is organized and structured in Ireland.
Bernard Keenan NUI coordinator, noted “this course is designed to study the Irish Education System and concurrently to study the history, literature, and culture of Ireland through lectures, seminars, visits with Irish educators and guided cultural tours”. Along with meeting their Irish contemporaries, the participants conducted their own research in areas which represented their professional interests such as curriculum, assessment, special and vocational education, and school administration.
Designed for educators at all levels the Seminar also includes an overview of Irish history, literature, and culture. Keenan noted “we go to Ireland as learners and we study how the Irish educational system has evolved in light of the unique Irish society.”
The summer 2006 program is scheduled from July 6 – July 29, 2006 and the enrollment deadline is April 1, 2006. Six graduate credits will be awarded for successful completion of the program of study. For additional information contact:
