Special Ed questions specific to Michigan

Hi, I'm applying for Special Ed jobs in Michigan and had a few questions since I'm from out of state and getting up to speed.

About me: 1 year of public school teaching experience out of state, Special Ed Cognitive Impairment setting.

sped I'm guessing that you cut and pasted your temporary letter from the State. As it says, you can be employed K-12. I'm guessing you were prepared in your other state to teach something like grades 7-12 CI and whatnot. Michigan only endorses K-12 for special ed, so you've kind of found a backdoor. I'm guessing you were prepared in your other state to teach something like grades 7-12 CI and whatnot. Michigan only endorses K-12 for special ed, so you've kind of found a backdoor. If you have no education or experience teaching elementary, you can technically teach, but I don't know if a district will hire you. However, a desperate inner-city Charter might hire you. Then again..., do you really want to teach something you really aren't qualified to do?

Your student teaching and practiculum will NOT count as a year of experience for salary placement, and honestly it won't be considered when reviewing applications. There will be a separate space on the online application for that. You basically have one-year of experience.

I'm guessing your other state may have had a generalist special ed endorsement, where you could teach everything. Michigan has specified fields, but that doesn't mean you can only teach CI. It just means that a majority of the students you teach need to be CI. You can apply for the job and see what they say. If you endorsement is a deal breaker, they will let you know...
