I'm just trying to figure out something here. I taught in GA, and due to NCLB, like in all of the states, you are required to be "Highly Qualified." Basically, whatever subject you taught, you had to be certified. So, I've been hearing from some of my friends who teach in SC how many teachers who were hired for this school year do not have certification. This is mostly due to the fact that they couldn't find teachers over the summer, they backed out last minute, or they simply quit (yes, after the second day of the beginning of the school year). But especially in the areas of math, science, and language arts, is it a stipulation that if they do hire an uncertified teacher, that teacher must receive certification within a specified time frame? Thanks for any help in this.
