I am not returning to my charter school next fall. Eventhough I am in MCS hiring pool I am a little nervous I won't get another job. There was a job fair today and I missed it because I was at juvenile court today for my student's custody case. Does anyone think my chances are good to get a job this fall. I'm certified in prek-4.
I am a one-man educational software shop, looking for input from teachers on what works and what is needed. I have an 11-question survey, and I would be grateful if you would spend a couple of minutes taking it. No funny business; all of my contact info is at the site: [link removed].
Does anyone know of a website that has software for grading handwritten essays. I'm trying to avoid checking 150 essays by hand next school year. My students will not have computer access to type essays out on a regular basis- this is mainly for me to give back accurate feedback in a timely manner.

Don't know of any software, but you might try using the pairing of students with 1 paper handed in. This only works if you pair people of equal grades / ability. I was amazed at how well it worked when it was suggested to me. I did give them the option of writing alone, since I had 3 people who had no desire to work with anyone. It did cut the number of papers by almost half, and the students said they learned from it.
Dear all, I am a substitute teacher in Huntsville Al and we might be movin to chattanooga TN this year. Ive tried the Hamilton county DoE site but couldn't find the application/information regarding substitution. Anyone here on the chat-board has any clue how to go about it. Will be very grateful.
Hey Jenny, I just moved to Chattanooga as well and would love to be a substitute teacher. I have never substituted before but I am thinking of changing my career to education. I think this will help me get my foot in the door or at least see if I want to teach. If you find out any information please let me know. Sorry I cant answer any of your questions. Thanks, Ashley

I guess the whole process takes a few weeks so start as early as possible. Hope this helps ya. Best of Luck! The pay seems great, but I've heard some very bad things. Liek no regular sector jobs, a good old boy mentality, political corruption, assault of teachers, administrators not backing teachers, gangs, high crime. Is midtown safe? I happen to be African American and I am in Detroit, so I'm used to negative publicity ( some false/some true). I plan to teach elementary. But I don't want to jump out of the frying pan and into the fire. Will the real memphis please stand up?
Memphis is not all bad! There is some crime, but I live in Midtown and the most that really happens is cars getting broken into. It also depends on what school you teach in. Elementary is probably safe, but unless you are in a County school the kids will be challenging as poverty is a big problem here. I don't know all the details of what it's like to work in the schools, but as for the city, I love it.

Hi! Does anyone know anything about teaching for Ombudsman, ie the work environment, payscale, benefits? I'm considering an interview and would like to get an insiders view...any information would be greatly appreciated!
JanieI have found it is important to have personal connections. This can be hard...you might have to substitute for awhile in order to get to know someone. I imagine they don't want to place someone in a classroom that they are not absolutely sure they can trust.

JeanThe "powers that be" can remove this post now, if they'd like. The content has expired (although we had a great time in TN - saw the Hoot & Holler show and played at WonderWorks). -Jean
