Bob R/CAI don;t see a user with that name, I think it's possible you may have registered a long time ago, and we had to cycle the database once upon a time. You should just try to re-register with that screenname. If you have trouble, let me know and I can see if I can get you straightened out....
Teacher's aide in NY suspended without pay for yawning, unjust evals and terminations, teacher strikes in WV, Ky, Ok, etc. Is it time for a teachers "Me too" movement?
I had an account years ago but looks like it's no longer active. When I try to create a new account, however, the system doesn't like my email address nor my username. Can an administrator please advise? Thanks
Today was my first official of summer break! We spent the past two days taking down and cleaning the classroom for summer. That was hard work. Today was the new rider call out for our cycling club. Once the dark clouds and brief rain passed, the conditions improved considerably for the ride. This was the first group ride that I have gone on with my new bike. What a difference a year experience and a faster bike can make. Last year when I went on my first group ride at the call out, I struggled trying to do seven miles. It was very hot then, my old bike was decades old and I didn't know how to shift gears very well. Today I breezed through 17 miles with barely a sweat.
I had my first experience with an angry, barking and bike chasing dog! He was furious we were on his county road and boy, did we have to ride fast to get away.i guess there must not be any restrictions on loose dogs out in the country.
So my summer plans for biking are to lead a novice/senior group on Monday mornings, go on a faster, longer club ride on Thursday evenings(with a Supper get together after at the new pub) and help with the training group I was on last year on Saturday. Hopefully I can fit a spinning class and another club ride in between. The summer's going to go quickly but at least I'll have something to show for it.
I'm looking for a list of topics to help my teachers this summer during some coaching sessions. I want to know: what are the biggest stressors for teachers?

I am a teacher but I also have a son that is a student in my district. He is in preschool and he is being bullied by other boys in his class. My wife and I have noticed a personality change in him, and so have his teachers. The main student that is bullying him has an IEP and is believed to have a behavioral disorder. This child hits, shoves, and is generally just an overall bad kid. Not only is he bullying my son, but he has also (unprovoked) smacked my 2 year old daughter in the face when she was with her mother to pick up my son from school. According to the teachers, they have tried to get this child removed but apparently can't do anything about it BECAUSE HE HAS AN IEP! What about my childrens' rights to go to school without being physically and emotionally harmed? I have found no resources of how to deal with SP.ed kids who bully other students, only thousands of resources explaining that disabled students are more likely to BE bullied. What do I do? I want action. But I can find nothing to support my claim that this child SHOULD NOT be around other children. I fully believe that he is causing harm to my child and possibly others, and his rights under the IDEA should not take precedent over my child's right to not be bullied and physically harmed. And no...I am NOT pulling him out of the school, because there are no other schools for him to go to in our area.
Secondly, the IEP is irrelevant. Being on an IEP does not give a student a free pass to bully, harass or physically assault other students. You need to follow up on every single incident that affects your child and demand to know what is being done about it. What is the plan for making sure there is not a next time (or at least to minimize the chances)?
If the child in question cannot stop hurting other children, then the IEP is not providing adequate support. Make sure every incident is being documented and be the squeaky wheel. Every time there is an incident, request a meeting with the principal, not the teacher. Are they providing a unique aide for the student? Are they considering changing the placement to a more restrictive environment for the safety of the child and the other children? They should not tell you any of that, but asking the principal will get them to ask the teacher/SPED staff those exact questions if they have not already.
I'm a SPED teacher and parent of a child with a disability and what you describe is not working for anyone right now. Good luck and hang in there.
