However, today, I was left with absolutely nothing for the class to do. It's mid terms, the students I had today had already taken their tests. Basically, today was just one big 8 hour long recess. They sat and visited with each other and played a game called Silent Ball (kind of like Dodge ball but you can't make a sound). They requested a DVD but I had no access to any media player or anything like that.
Personally, I felt like the day was a huge waste of educational time. They could have and should have been learning SOMETHING. But that's just my opinion. Anyway, should I have armed myself with some sort of activity? If so, what KIND of activity?
We picked the grands up after school three times this week because their college student nanny is on Christmas break. What fun to be involved in their pre-Christmas excitement ("This one is a puzzle or a lego," the package-shaking 7-year-old assures me.).
I have reached my 10,000 step goal 3 times during the last 7 days. Not too bad for this time of year. It's not looking a bit like Christmas, and that's been in my favor. Ha!
Congratulations on meeting your goals with your steps. I took my son in law from London to my cycling class this morning. He seemed to enjoy it. He's the one who cycles to all of his clients on his bike and he recently earned his black belt in kickboxing. He handled the class just fine! I got in 17 miles and managed a sweat. Today made my fourth cycling class since last Friday. That's a far cry from once week like I typically do. I like vacations!
My daughter and son in law went bike shopping for me yesterday. I tried our 8 different bikes at the two bike shops in town. A lot of people suggested I get a road bike, but after trying those, I just didn't like leaning over so much to manipulate the brakes and gears. I ended up preferring a hybrid style bike. At least now I know what I like and plan to buy when I come across a good buy. I don't need one until spring.
We are enjoying the season, too. We are not traveling at all out of town since everyone is coming here. While grandpa took the older 2 shopping, I took the 7 year old to the local children's science museum. It was pretty quiet except for a birthday party going on upstairs. I ended knowing the mother of the twins celebrating and she invited us to share in the party when she saw me. I knew a lot of her family and some others so while I chatted, dad got to make slime, get an animal balloon, ate pizza and Gigi cupcakes. So a visit to the museum became much more and it was fun.
Thanks for the recipe. I am pretty sure that is being added to my family meal holiday celebration Tuesday. We have quite a lot of out of town company and a lot are vegetarian and vegan.
So I am ready for some good times with family and our week long visit from our British newlyweds.
The winter season is a time of joy and celebration; of friends and family. It's a time of reflection and a time for renewal; a time to share the dream of peace upon the earth and harmony among all beings.
What class size would you recommend for working hands-on with a group of adults making a general arts/crafts project? Nothing too complex, just something simple like making a Christmas ornament.
The things we do at Christmas are touched with a certain extravagance, as beautiful, in some of its aspects, as the extravagance of nature in June. ~ Robert Collyer
