aughter and grandson, but in doing so, I will need to take the Praxis exam. Does anyone have some good advice on what to concentrate on and what resources to use?
I have an old Praxis book will that work? I will need it for elementary.
I could use some good advice on this exam. I have not taken this exam before and need to pass.
somedayTake the full length practice test on ETS website. If you can pass that you will be fine. It costs 10 dollars I think. If you are already teaching the content these test are more common sense than anything and you should know the buzzwords.
I have tried unsuccessfully to acquire my teaching service from 29 years ago to receive increments abroad. I have been constantly told the Dept of Ed does not hold information for longer than 7 years. Also the school is now closed. Does anyone know how I can aquifer this information? I have tried the archive section in the City Library.
I'm still here and still exercising. I read your posts daily.
Wednesday I walked with an old friend and her 2 dogs. We did the distance, but I realized it was way too sloooow for this me. So I walked again in the afternoon, shorter distance but faster. I honestly think I'm getting a little stronger.
Judy, so glad you're also still exercising. I love that you're feeling stronger. And, that you don't like slooooow as much as fast.
I'm slacking off sometimes, choosing to finish things up rather than walk. This was a project week for Habitat, and that involves lots of computer time for me. I'm off today for a 3-day getaway with gal friends and then on Monday I go to PA to help my sister as she moves from her big house to an apartment.
But in terms of moving on with my career, I am applying to part-time and full-time teaching jobs that fit my subject matter. I was just offered a part-time adjunct teaching job this morning at a local for-profit community college. I would be happy to take this job just to have a new teaching job to put on my resume and to move beyond my firing from my last job, and even part-time employment in education is better than no employment in education. But this for-profit community college is only offering to pay me $18 an hour, and I find that crazy. I have taught as an adjunct for many years in the past, and I received $55-80 per hour at those colleges and community colleges. And my former full-time job paid an annual salary which worked out for a 40 hour week to be $36 per hour. I have two MA degrees in this subject area and some PhD work. Even my after-school tutoring paid $30-50 per hour.
Should I take this adjunct teaching job for $18 per hour? It is only 30 minutes drive away and it is in my subject areas, and I could use a new teaching reference to put on my resume and to distract from my earlier wrongful termination from a full-time job. Or is this salary so appallingly low that I should avoid this school regardless of my desperate circumstances?
For what it is worth, the student tuition at this for-profit school is still almost twice what a regular community college would charge, so the tuition is high, but clearly adjunct teachers are being paid nothing.
men, I'll be over for that taco casserole (sans the cheese sauce); yes, I have made a similar dish occasionally. Love it. So glad your getaway weekend was a good one. Your school is quite small--just 7 on the staff. Or, did I misunderstand that.
Judy, I do love to eat those snacky meals. Though sometimes they become all-evening-long marathons of snacking. ;)
We have the grands this week-end, and it's been so much fun. Last night was a visit to a pumpkin farm on steroids (fun rides for the kids (like a giant hamster wheel that they propelled, a mini-zip line, an apple cannon shooter, etc. etc.); oh, but we all loved it. Today Habitat had a booth at the farmers market in the morning and our church had Trunk, Treat and Eat in the afternoon. Such Halloween grandeur!
We have had yellow jackets, did we ever (finally got Orkin out here yesterday)! One nailed me on my right hand (sitting there on the computer mouse, just waiting for me to grab it)--ugh. I'd forgotten how much that hurts. Thankfully, today they're mostly gone.
I had my 10,000 steps in yesterday even without a formal walk (grands will do that!). I've been hitting that mark most days lately.
Bev-MIThe taco casserole sounds delish!! I have been keeping up with the 10.000 steps, most days. It does take some time and effort. spending more time at pt place and finishing up the days with some stationary bike riding at DMs. :)
Not cycling but walking to pick up the 7 year old at school every day. Throw in the energy needed to keep up with a room ful if 3 and 4 year olds, I am getting plenty of exercise.
