I've had to move a lot with my family over my 9 year teaching career. 4 districts in two states. Only one has paid me through the summer after i quit. I don't understand. If you sign a contract for x amount, and they spread that x amount from August to August of the next year, why do districts cut off your pay immediately when you resign? From what i understand, i was contracted to work for x amount and the summer pays are included in that amount. Has anyone also moved a lot in their career and dealt with this? What's that right thing to do? Shouldn't they all pay us up to the beginning of the next school year? We may be moving again soon!! (I'm a guest user, so i can't respond to your answers... But I'd love some advice...)
Donna J Twice I wasn't paid through the summer because I didn't start the first day of work, it was a couple of weeks into the year. Also, there are many places that don't pay August to August; they still past just during the period of the contract. They take out the money for the 12 months of benefits but don't spread the take home pay through the summer....See More

flacka You have a contract with the district to pay you X amount for the school year. It's doesn't matter how it's doled out as long as you get the full amount of your pay for the year. When you resign as HR how they do it to make sure you get all the pay that you are owed.
