Just MeThank you! I've expressedy interest in the DODEA with my principal and she knows I applied, but I'm afraid she will not be so understanding of me leaving on the middle of the year if it comes to it. Going to try not to worry about it yet.
In many cases it can be the state/District that can potentially cause problems for teachers leaving mid-year/after contracts are signed so you might want to start researching what the potential worst case scenarios are (or just wait to see if you get an interview before worrying too much about it).
In general, they will not hire from stateside and move someone over just to fill a position for the rest of the year, so there would be some plan to continue beyond this year or be placed in another position/location/etc. (although since you would be provisional there is no "guarantee" of a position).
IdaI think that Social Studies is a common certification for people to have. Besides experience in general, if you can get AP certified that would help. Particularly Comparative Politics as next year there will be a push for that and not a lot of people traditionally do both.
Other than that, virtually any other subject area you could add would be helpful, so take a look at your transcripts and see if you have any kind of collection of courses that might get you most of the way towards adding another area (and if you're in a state that allows you to add certs via testing, a state cert generally reduces the credits normally required by DoDEA by half, 15 vs. 30, 12 vs 24).
Wishful Thinking@Lindsey@WaitingOnDoDEA I did get notification that I was not selected. Disappointed with the results, but I am thankful that an official notice was given instead of endless waiting. I hope you two are still working through the process.
IcanreadI thought maybe it was down for good and wondering what the best way would be to start a new anonymous page for people to learn more about DoDEA!
I was curious if anyone had any mor...See MoreHello amazing DODD teachers, I'm envious of you all as it is my dream to teach for DODEA. I finally submitted my first application on the 31st, I have read so much about how it can literally take up to 10 years to get a job in the system or sometimes never! so I'm not counting on this time around at all.
I was curious if anyone had any more information for me on special-education for DODEA. I found some information and it appears that there is a lot of programs overseas for special needs, I've heard so many rumors about how they don't have a lot of special education on bases because they try to keep more high needs kids on us soil etc is this true? Do they have self contained programs and push in/pull out programs?
Also, I know special education is in high demand in the US. Is it high demand with DODEA? Or is it "easier" to get into the system with a special education credential? I am currently in my sixth year and have a lot of experience with a wide range of disabilities. I was just wondering if I could have a little more "hope" of my application at least being glanced at.
So, you probably have LIMM ES, MS and HS which are the most common SPED positions with DoDEA. If you already have some classes in the other specialty areas then at worst you are probably looking at a couple of classes to add more areas. Let us know when you hear about your qualified areas according to DoDEA (and make sure you applied through the EAS system and not just USA jobs).
Having a wide range of experience with disabilities will help you in interviews and future positions but probably not for the certification stage. SPED is a good cert to have (as in all states) but LIMS/LIPS are even better. Like HaHa stated, most have LIMM certs but not as many have LIMS/LIPS.
My LIMS room is not technically a self-contained room because each student has a homeroom teacher but they are in my room for most of the day (except lunch, specials, recess, etc.). I do have one student who is in my room the entire day but he is an exception to the rule and still has a homeroom teacher.
hahaIt's a little uncommon but not all that unusual. As posted, students may or may not be upset but are generally pretty resilient and used to people moving through their lives.
K-Town would be a great posting and is not going anywhere. If you really want back into DoDEA this is the time to really pursue it. Good luck!
I've completed my application and it's been marked qualified. Am I supposed to send off reference letters or are those sent automatically to the references on my application? I'm not sure what the next steps are. Thanks!
Dr. Ali FantThe last two times I made it to the telephone interview stage, it was one week after the email notice that the candidate made it to the referral list. The telephone interview was one week after the email interview request.
