hahaI believe she would have the option of either/both types of insurance but I don't know for certain. Probably one for HR or a teacher with a Japanese spouse.
On the EAS application system, this section allows you to select what schools you are interested in. I want to select all the schools in Japan (because I am willing to move anywhere), however, it seems to only let me select a certain region and the schools within that smaller region. Is thier something that I am doing wrong? I would not want to miss an opportunity in another area because my settings are wrong.
They may or may not question it at some point, but it sh...See MoreI think (as you probably saw) that as a local hire you can only apply to a few schools and would only be considered for those schools in all likelihood. Since you are willing to go anywhere in Japan, it seems to make more sense to go World wide with Japan as your only target country.
They may or may not question it at some point, but it shouldn't stop you from getting interviews.
The other thing to consider is that if you apply as a local hire, you are giving up ANY chance of overseas hire benefits (as far as I understand the situation) whereas if you go the world wide route you at least have a shot of getting LQA etc.
Most of the USA Jobs postings for teachers specifically say do not apply through USA Jobs. It's up to you if you wish to do both but I don't think it's a big deal unless the job posting says to do it.
SocialStudiesLivinginJapanHAHA, thank you so much for all of your help. If I ever get to meet you in person at one of the openings in Japan, I will certainly treat you and yours to a delicious dinner. I will be moving with my wife, and all of this information has been a big help to getting to the next step.
In reality, you cannot enter the transfer round until you are off of your provisional year so the only way you would be moving before that was done was if it was a management directed move (and again, they are not obligated to find you another position if you are not permanent but they generally do). You do not have to repeat your provisional period in any scenario that I am aware of.
IdaAgreed. The provisional period is two years at any Dodea school. A friend was "excessed" her first year and hired at the elementary on her complex and was off probation the beginning of 3rd year. If you think about we work for Dodea not the school so the probational period is tied to them.
I will be moving to Italy for a position I accepted. I was told I needed to get a visa before I get orders. Is Italy different than the rest of DODEA, I thought teachers were given a SOFA visa or something?
**psych**The sogiorno is a very big deal. Indeed, there have been instances of DoD & military folks denied entry because of claimed status but without the right visa. In many countries, there is no SOFA visa.
Yesterday I got an email that I was placed on a referral list. Literally within less than a minute I got another email that I wasn't selected. Is that common place? I've never been interviewed, or contacted in any other way.
HFrom what I've read, you usually don't get any notification if you were not selected. Please keep us posted. For which job and location were you interviewed?
Does anyone have experience with student teac...See MoreI am about to start the process of applying for student teaching with DoDEA. My main concern is housing: the application forms ask to specify an address where you will be living. It seems odd that you need to have your housing situation figured out before you have applied or even been accepted.
Does anyone have experience with student teaching with DoDEA that could shine a light on the housing situation?
DodeaHopefulI student taught stateside DODEA, but I got in because I was already a substitute There is a student teacher at my overseas location, but she is a spouse of a current teacher
Base...See MoreI need 3 more credits 'directly related to severe and profound disabilities or mental retardation'. I found this course from University of Laverne. Do you think it would work? I've emailed DODEA headquarters, but have no idea how long until I get an answer.
Procedures for the Mentally Handicapped, Course #EDUC 712G, 3 credits
Based on up-to-date research, Educational Procedures for the Mentally Handicapped offers positive ways to help exceptional children reach their full potential. Explanations and examples that will help you understand the needs and motives of exceptional children are included, as are definitions, characteristics, educational implications and classroom management strategies devoted to various special needs situations. Topics covered include inclusive education, early childhood development, assessment and special needs, speech and language impairments, traumatic brain injuries, emotional disabilities, and autism.
hahaIt "should". In the past, anything that mentioned mentally retarded/challenged/handicapped, cognitively challenged, etc. was counted for Mod. to Severe.
2. Are we paid our full LQA even...See MoreI apologize if this posts twice. I swear that I typed it and hit post, but when I came back to the board, it was not there. Anyway, can someone help me with a few questions. I thought I understood, but the $ numbers for Brussels seem too good to be true.
1. Are LQA and COLA two separate allowances?
2. Are we paid our full LQA even if the rent is less? Is it added to our paycheck or paid to the contracted landlord?
I still have only gotten the referral-list email, but I'm already dreaming about Brussels.
IdaI think that pretty close to what we pay for a FeHB family plan per month. I think it actually like $156 a pay period and then we pay $46 for a high option dental plan (for braces).
