My question is: does anyone have any experience or know of any teachers that got hired coming through an online teacher certification program (keeping in mind that I do have my master's in school psychology)? I know that the University of West Florida accepts 12 credit hours from completing that program. I just don't know what DODEA will accept since I am not a traditional Education major.
Any advice or insight into my chances of getting hired will be greatly appreciated. TIA!
My sister graduated from a different university and also has graduated with distinction on her diploma instead of summa cum laude. I think those labels are only for undergraduate. Not sure since I never really noticed anyone's diplomas except mine and close family.
HelpOthersLook at the back of your transcript. Mine actually described what each title meant. They went from using Latin to using English and explained the equivalents, so I knew which to check On the application.
hahaYes. The dependent refers to the students who are generally (but not always) dependents of active duty personnel. They don't really use DDESS anymore since we are all supposed to be DoDEA, rather than DoDDS for overseas and DDESS for stateside (so they should update the EAS).
HelpOthersI believe there are other government schools in Alaska. Someone here used to post about them. They are not with DoDEA, but related to the Native American population I believe.
"(NOTE: There are no limitations for candidates to be eligible to apply for Virtual School position. Permanent DoDDS Educators are eligible to apply for Virtual School even though they are not eligible to apply for DoDDS positions.)"
There are 3 physical hubs listed for the virtual positions. Do you move to those locations, or is virtual literally taught from where ever you are right now, and you are teaching students in those locations?
IdaI agree. I am definitely under the impression that Virtual School teacher are located at the hubs. I believe it is a time zone and technology issue.
My application is showing "qualified" as of 01-11. My children are station at Camp Lejeune, and I will move there mid-June. How difficult will it be to secure a position stateside? My fear is I will take a job with the local school board, and then DoDEA will make an offer. Any advice on how to navigate the hiring process is greatly appreciated.
It's always hard to predict how a principal will react in any situation. In my experience, principals with DoDEA do not seem to mind (and even appreciate it) if they know about qualified teachers moving into the area.
The way I have come to think about it is that a minority percentage will appreciate/be interested to hear from you, a minority percentage will be annoyed and a larger percentage will ignore or not respond. So, there a much better chance it will help you or have no affect then that it will actually harm your chances of getting a job.
HelpOthersApply in EAS as quickly as you can for that specific location.
Make sure you are state certified in at least two different states, so if you need to break your local district contract you will still have a state certification (without one, you might no longer qualify depending on your credit hours).
Does anyone know if each region has its own ISS SPED? Is there a way to see the contact info (email?) or is that internal and only people already working with DoDEA can see it?
Based on the two different districts I've worked at with DoDEA, the job mostly entails overseeing compliance, auditing files (paper and electronic), answering email/telephone questions about procedure, paperwork etc. In theory they visit schools and give advice on programming, individual students etc., but it has never happened in my experience. They also do some training on procedures, IEP software, crisis management, etc.
I wouldn't want/recommend the job (despite it paying more than a teacher) unless someone was really wanting a break from the classroom for a few years or was just looking for a way into DoDDS.
HelpOthersTry Dodea.edu and look for the district you want to work. Search for the district office and you should find a way to contact that office They can put you in contact with their special education ISS. There is information at dodea.edu about the restructuring and that is where it shows how many of each type of ISS are at each location.
My next question is about the process. I am currently a student and will be graduating December 2019. So she is applying for the 2019/2020 school year. When do interviews for these positions begin? Also, I am aware that she will be moving a few months before I do(due to me finishing school). Would there be a problem with this, or would I still have my relocation costs covered(flight) even though I'm going a little later than her?
My final question is, when do they typically move abroad? If a school year starts at the end of August do teachers typically move right before then, or is it months before?
Jello76How would you suggest highlighting things like that? Not turning in a resume is kind of freaking me out. The system is almost too easy. Do you just list CCSS or being a teacher leader in the skills area?
HelpOthersThe College and Career Readiness/Common Core experience and PARCC experience can be highlighted in the narrative on the experiences page. This narrative location is a great place to list anything not already mentioned in the application. However, the characters are limited.
Couple of QuestionsWe DID receive a form from HR. It was really basic for me and the kids. Husband's was more in-depth. I can look to see if we have a blank copy still of the original for you.
intrepidtravelrI concur with this. Make sure you are calling and asking questions at the staffing line. My HR rep ended up switching to someone else midway through my process and I didn't know until I called after a week of unanswered emails.
If you are on this site and you know of any current or upcoming support positions for FT Jackson, SC DODD, can you please message me. I would like to become a staff member in the area of Support. Thank You
