I was offered a position (I am assuming it was a tentative offer, although the title said "Formal Offer") last Thursday, and have submitted some paperwork for a background clearance. Does anyone know about how long it will take? I am so eager to move.
italiangirl896Denise, I don't know how to message you separately on here, but I just got a tentative offer to teach in Guam! I'd love to chat with you and learn all the ins and outs. This is my first DODEA experience!

Not sure if you are on much lately, but if you are is there a way to PM you? Do not see that option on this chatboard, but really want to ask you some things. Please respond if possible!
Research shows that military families tend to have younger parents with more children than the average family in the USA. One parent tends to be home to support the children during and/or after school. The kids have homes, electricity, etc.
However, they also have deployments and the stress involved with having at least one parent who is often in danger. The stay at home parent may have his or her own emotional issues related to the separation and may or may not be emotionally available for their children at home.
Some areas with DoDEA serve State Department children and civilians primarily with a smaller percent`ag
Every child and family within a culture is unique, so I agree it is hard to make a blanket statement. However, I would say that most DoDEA schools have less gang violence and violence involving weapons and drugs than in the USA, but this is not a given. Violence and drug use can happen, it just seems more rare.
As for the rest, successful experience as teacher is always a nice place to start when moving to admin (although obviously not required). If you are already an AP (or still a teacher I suppose) then demonstrating leadership experience in your current previous schools would be helpful (e.g. heading up successful initiatives, anything related to effective collection/use of data, experience with Common Core/PARRC,). Basically anything that can show you to be effective with students and people, competent in the field of education, flexible, reliable, etc.
Undergrad: Special Education Cross Categorical K-12 (most of my classes are in behavior, assessment, disabilities etc)
Masters (graduate in May 2018): M.S.E. in reading (30 hours-reading specialist, literacy coach, science based reading etc) and Dyslexia therapy endorsement (15 hours)
I am certified in 2 Orton Gillingham reading programs and will bring those programs and all materials with me if I was hired.
Praxised into Elementary education
Praxis in 2018 for Reading specialist/literacy coach
Thanks for your help! I know it is probably a tough question to answer.
I am sure I have asked this before but I am having a hard time with HR adding certification after been hired. As an employee how many credits I need to complete for social studies? TIA
We have chatted a few times. Do you know if any of the TVI jobs are still open? I finish the class that qualifies me for SPED by Thanksgiving. Already qualified for VI and English. Now hoping to get an interview for next school year. Thanks.
Dr. Ali FantThank you someday. Of course, pension laws also change after retirement and you may not be grandfathered. Hence the reason I agree with HaHa, work until you drop.
