In order to receive full benefits when teaching abroad… do we PHYSICALLY need to be in the US from when we first begin our application, or for when we interview with a school, or when we accept an offered position?

haha Sadly, it depends on who you ask, when you ask, who is reviewing your particular case etc. The most recent actual policy I remember seeing used the language of being physically present in the US from the time they applied, or words to that affect.

Just read the regulation. It's very clear. The answer is Yes.

But you're hoping for a different answer. You want to use the hired-overseas loophole that nobody really understands, and that never seems to be applied equally in two consecutive hirings.

I have a friend who applied while stateside, took a job offer at an international school, got a referral for a job over the winter holidays, was stateside when they took the interview, got the job offer while still stateside, only to be told that they would not receive LQA as they were not residing in the US...See More

HelpOthers They way they currently state it- the candidate must be living in the USA for at least one year AND during the application process through to the final offer in order to qualify for LQA.

The candidate must be in the States from the beginning to the end of the hiring process.
