hahaIt looks like it is open to current Japan teachers only. Also, since it is a voluntary move outside of the transfer round the gov't would not pay for the move and local hires could not use a move to pick up LQA benefits.
How long is the typical referral list and how are they organized? Randomly? By rank for qualifications and experience? Do they rank references, letters, transcripts, etc? I have been wondering about this piece.
I have heard that they are ranked but cannot honestly tell you what exactly goes into that ranking. I seriously doubt that they quantify references, transcripts etc. There may be more points for masters degree over BA, more years of experience etc but that is just speculation. There should also be more points for veteran's benefits etc.
Regardless of ranking I have heard conflicting reports of whether the admin must go straight down the list or can pick and choose.
Wow. Hot off the press. They just emailed a list of 80+ openings for the fall across the Japan district. Some very interesting openings and combinations. :D
Current in district DoDDS teachers will get first option for these (basically a quasi mini-transfer round) but that will leave similar size holes in other district schools.
angelWhere can you take the methods courses for elementary? I have an elementary cert but not the classes. I've done a search but can't really find anything.
I don;t have any information about Europe. When we were in Europe we would be asked if we were interested in a possible in district or in complex move but I never recall seeing an actual list of openings. Those were also big closing years so there were a lot of excess teachers to place.
For Math I see Gr 1-6/Math/Music, MS HS Math, Comp. Math, Math/Chinese/Physics, Math/Chem, HS Math, Gr 1-6/Math, HS math/ET, English/ Math and Math/ESL/LARS.
For Science I see MS/HS ESL/SCI (plus the two combined with Math etc above. For SS I see the ever popular Video/SS/AP Gov.. I don't see any Business.
When trying to comment on a post from the main "screen" (with all the posts on it) I was unable to comment. BUT if I clicked on the title of the post I wanted to comment on (it takes you to a new page) I was able to comment on it the first try. Not sure if this was just a fluke or if it will always work. Good luck!
Does anyone know how much time DDESS gives new hires to relocate? Especially if you are moving from another state? Will they offer temporary housing on base until you can find something off base? I know they do not pay for relocation, but how flexible are they about moving?
infiniti4Thank you for answering that Expat, but HR asked me when I could start. I thought they would give me the start date like you said...What would be an appropriate amount of time to request given that I am moving from another state and my principal at least wants me to put in a two week notice?
EuxpatI came in at the beginning of a school year and had a report date on my orders. Sounds like yours is different with the school year well under way? I would take whatever time you need to leave your job with proper notice, move and find/set-up your house etc. You could also call your new principal and ask for guidance on this issue.
I was just able to successfully use the comment button for the first time in two days, lol. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it works for others and not for me...it has a mind of it's own...
To be fair they needed SPED teachers so badly they...See MoreNo different than going from one state to another in some cases. I had my 5 year professional cert from FL but NY would not recognize it because I hadn't stayed in FL and taught there for 3 years (only two). NY wanted me to basically go back and get enough coursework for almost another BA.
To be fair they needed SPED teachers so badly they did give me an exemption for two years while I worked on it (although I used the time to test out out of a few classes they wanted and worked on Masters that would make me more marketable for DoDDS :D).
I ❤ spedThe same thing happened to me. I had to get 6 credits in order to get the moderate/severe for ES, MS, HS and severe/profound ES, MS, HS. I am certified for everything in my state and have 17 years of experience. DODEA operates differently. It paid off-today I got 3 referral emails! Long and frustrating process.
happyteacherNot sure if there is a rhyme or reason... depends on when the principal is ready to start hiring. Sometimes people receive interview requests without making a referral list.
hahaUsually a list is generated when the principal goes into the system and searches for candidates for a specific position (that they already have authorization to hire for).

happyteacherNice! I bet we got the same three referrals. I too, was certified for evetthing in my state. Luckily, dodea qualified for me moderate/severe and severe/profound, but I did need to take an additional class for preK Sped and preK and K gen Ed.
