We also use Paint and Kidpix but I have a game we play at the beginning of each class. Its Simon Says but with Vocabulary Words. I might say Simon Says to point ...See More

CTJS It looks like you have a great class. I use CyberSmart too in my classroom and I really like it.

I clicked on your games. How do you feel about the pop-up ads? Do you think they are appropriate for the age level. I had one ad that popped up asking about an optical illusion where you either see the bottom of a bikini or a lamp.

I also teach one letter of the keyboard each week. I have a tall sheet of paper with 3 letters on it one over the other. The first one has Q, A, Z. We talk about the letter A and how it has an upstairs neighbor Q and a downstairs neighbor of Z. Then I have the kids raise their hands if they have an A, Q or Z in their names. We practice their name a lot. Some kids have it so easy like Ian and Noah while the Stephanie's and Elizabeth's have a rough time of it. They love learning how to change the size of the letters and the color. We spend a couple of lessons learning how to turn on and off the computer. Our computers require you to press CTL ALT DEL simultaneously and then type a Password. It takes a while for everyone to get that. Shutting down the computer correctly takes more time. When they know how to do both I give them a certificate or a pencil with a piece of paper taped to it like a flag saying I Can Turn the Computer On and Off so they can take it home to mom and dad. We also practice inserting disks or CDs. We use KidPix extensively with Kindergarten. There are books out of different projects to do with KidPix. We have a variety of games that reinforce the skills they learn in their classroom in phonics and counting. There are many online games that can be bookmarked or you can create shortcuts for ( although half my kids already know how to go to Disney and Nickelodeon and Club Penguin ). There are some Clifford games that deal with sounds for example and Sesame Street does a letter and a number a day. Drawing programs are a lot of fun. Sammy's Science Center and Bailey's Book House have several activities for Kindergarten age but the kids favorite is A to Zap. There's an activity for each letter of the alphabet.

Kindergarteners can write simple stories if you give them a list of words to copy. For example. Ask them to tell about who lives in their house and write down for them father, mother, sister, brother, dog, cat, and ask them for other words they need to know to describe their family. Or have them copy simple poems for holidays.

You can make cards ( can take a lot of colored ink ) or bookmarks. Kids like to take things home.
