The Great Books Foundation is a non-profit educational organization that is dedicated to helping people think and share ideas. For over 60 years, the Great Books Shared Inquiry™ Method has excited students' curiosity and challenged their thinking. During the Great Books professional development program, teachers learn how to read texts and develop a framework of questions they will use to guide discussion, and then how to guide students in the same process.

The Great Books method evolves the traditional learning paradigm used in many classrooms. Using a student centered, organic approach to learning, students become engaged with and challenged by the material they are studying whether it is literature, history, or science. Rich, text centered discussions challenge students to stretch their thinking and allow teachers to enhance their skills when using this dynamic questioning process.

The Great Books method works because it is a student-centered approach to learning where the students are given the opportunities and tools they need to construct their own knowledge. Teachers who implement the Great Books method immediately see and hear their students’ enthusiasm.
