To make a long story short, she had to go while she was at the game Saturday. But rather than use one of the port-o-potties in the stadium, she decided to take the walk across the parking lot to the high school and went to the bathroom there. I really don't see what the big deal is with what she did. She used one of the girls' rooms in the high school without incident and then walked back to the festivities as the football field. For my daughter - especially given the specific circumstances of what she needed to do - it was well worth the walk to the high school to have a regular toilet to do it in. Personally, I can't say that I blame her. I don't know any woman who would rather do that in a port-o-potty.
The problem now, though, is the school somehow sees this as a grievous offense. For her little trip to the girls' room - the specific offense is "leaving the stadium during the game" - she has been assigned an "Extended Detention" (3 hours) later this week. Once again, I don't see what the big deal is. My daughter simply used the toilet - what difference should it make to anybody which particular toilet she used. If she preferred to take the walk rather than go in a port-o-potty why is that anyone's business but hers?
- Kids like to leave the stadium during games to drink or smoke in the parking lot. The stay-in-the-stadium-rule is meant to deter this behavior. - The stadium is a secure location; the school has teachers and police officers in place to assure safety. No one knows who is in the parking lot. While your daughter experienced no problems, you have to admit that anyone could've been in that large parking lot just waiting for a girl to walk through alone. - Kids aren't allowed to be in the building unsupervised. Sure, your daughter had no bad intentions, but plenty of kids would go into the building and vandalize things.
She did break a rule, and a single afternoon of detention isn't all that big a punishment. She should save up a bunch of homework and make it a productive afternoon.

I was forever getting surprised by the bell. You know what I mean...you've lost track of time and the bell rings. I've created a program to run on a Windows pc that keeps track of the time for me. It has a large digital clock and right below it, the number of minutes left in the period. Depending on your teaching method, you can set it up to play a tune (alarm) with 1, 2, or 3 minutes before the bell. I have my clock play the alarm with 1 minute left. My class rule: with 1 minute left, students may pack up and stand next to their seats until I dismiss them. Some of the many teachers on my campus using The Clock give them a bit more time. It's totally up to the teacher.
I've been using The clock since around 1990. Other teachers have given me ideas to add features to the program:
