Since the economic crash of 2008, I have read on economics and have learned that the world has had three major economic systems: slavery, the feudal system, and capitalism.

The current monument issue is all about the horrors of slavery, and the condemnation of those who supported this economic system despite many of those men being honorable in most other ways (e.g. Robert E. Lee was not a vile person). Not to debate which system is worse, in the future, the world could just as easily condemn all of us for supporting capitalism in the same way we condemn those who supported slavery.

Remember, America is the richest country in the history of mankind. Yet, half of the population is in or near poverty. People go hungry, without health care, and without education in this richest of countries. I could go on, but there is no need. It is clear that America can do better than capitalism. Plus, if you do not think this is a business. Then explain the graph belo...See More

EasTexSteve Yes, Lulu. That's why it's called "prison." It's not supposed to be pleasant.

T.E.C. - Iowa Interestingly, other countries try to make prison somewhat pleasant and they have a lower recidivism rate. Then again, America believes in punishment, as opposed to helping! Heck, as in food stamps and more, America thinks punishment is the best way to help!
