Hi, I have several boys and girls who routinely skip lines when reading. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to help them keep their place more effectively?

EllenG59 There are reading guides cardboard with a clear or colored strip that's see-through) you can pick up pretty cheap (around $1.00 each) at teaching supply stores. Christy Thanks so much to all of you for your responses. I think I have been so caught up in the response to intervention hoopla that I forgot that simplest is often best. I guess I thought there must be some "scientifically proven" intervention to use. I also use an index card, especially when reading something that requires concentration, so thank you, B...See More

Using the hand to pace underneath the text is an excellent reading strategy and will fix the "skipping lines syndrome." See #3 under [link removed].

marann Lots of good suggestions. I find that any of my kids that skip lines, lose place in reading. etc. usually score very low on the Figure Ground sub test of the Gardner Test of Visual Perceptual Skills.
