I have a mild/moderate 4th and 5th grade SDC class. The problem I have is that most of my 4th and 5th grade students read at a 1st and 2nd grade reading level, but they get bored with the reading material availabe at that level. It's hard to keep these 4th and 5th graders interested when they are reading what they consider "baby books". High interest/low reading level books don't always go down to 1st and 2nd grade reading level. Any suggestions?

Teri I agree with the previous poster. Read aloud to your students. If you choose the right books, not only can the students work on comprehension strategies, they can develop a love for books!
