I am getting a 3rd grade student that is getting a behavior IEP and is known for physical aggression and cussing in unstructured environments, especially recess. He has had 43 office referrals and had at least 5, if not more out of school suspensions. He is not deficient academically and I have not had any interaction with him. What activities do I work on with him to get to change his aggressive behavior? I don't know what is causing this besides he is probably exposed to this behavior at home. Any suggestions would be helpful. THANK YOU!!
SpedTeacher74 Has an FBA been conducted? If he has a behavior disorder, he will need behavior goals OR a BIP in place. If no FBA has been done, then I would request one. That will guide you on what you need write goals for and address in the school environment.

mscrawford101 Your very first priority is to put all of the stuff you've read/heard about this kid and focus on building a very strong relationship with him. In my experience if you hook this kids and get them excited that you are their person, a lot of the other stuff gets much easier!
