ation. I also have been teaching for 27 years and will need to consolidate my supplies from 12 cabinets into 4 cabinets, as my students often require more supplies and equipment than in a gen ed class. There is also no space in this room for student's to keep their belongings, such as coats and bookbag. Does anyone have any ideas how I can organize this space in order for maximum success
and less stress among crowded students? I'm having difficulty imagining much success in this situation since I have had this setup previously and it was definitely NOT a success then! I'm trying to make the best of a bad situation, but I need ideas to avoid the pitfalls of the past. Thanks!
As I recall, we managed to find room for desks, a group table, a one on one table, independent work table with shelf for baskets, a cubbie type desk for a listening center, and set up two cubicle areas with beanbags chairs. We tried to do lots of rotations and have some students in areas where they required no/less direct supervision and were out of each other's way. Ditto with scheduling so some were out at specials at different times.
For coats and backpacks, maybe cubbies out in the hallway if there is no room in the classroom. For your storage, no easy answers. Rubber maid garden type sheds/shelves (tall/narrow of course)? Also, maybe finding storage in a closet/storage room for most of the things you are not using right away somewhere else at school?
With your experience I'm sure you have thought of all of this already. There just really aren't any easy answers. I did the self-contained for a few years and really enjoyed it, but was quite happy to move on to more of a resource room for students included for everything as it was exhausting being ON every second of the day.
I am responsible for getting gift for my principal who is leaving at the end if the year. I am thinking of ordering a wine glass with our school name etched in it. Then filling it will candy and getting her a bottle of wine. Nothing expensive but a small token. What do you think? Suggestions?
There are no days in the whole year more delicious than those that often come to us in the latter half of April. The sun trembles in his own soft rays. The grass in the meadow seems to have grown green since yesterday. Though there is warmth enough for a sense of luxury, there is coolness enough for exertion.
