I drove out to the park near the river where people float down on tubes. ...See MoreOh boy! What a fight I had this morning...with myself! My feet, ankles and knees were still achy this morning even after I had taken some pain meds. So I had to tell myself that I was NOT going to run even if my OCD was telling me to complete this week's runs. I won!
I drove out to the park near the river where people float down on tubes. I researched the park area online to map out the route. Unfortunately, the map was detailed enough for me so I would have to figure it out at the park. The walking/running path meanders along the river where I saw people fishing, scuba diving, floating and swimming. The temps today are in the 60s and there was a light breeze so I thought they were crazy to be in the water. On the second loop around the river, I asked the divers about the water temperature. They told me that the water is always 70*-75* year round because it is spring fed. Looky there...I'm still learning!
I followed the path around the park up and down stairs and ramps,on gravel paths and across bridges. I had to loop around about three times as the total path is a little over 1 mile. I loved exploring the area and saw areas that were completely new to me.
My total mileage was 4.43 miles and 10,000 steps of actual exercise walking in 82 minutes.
Now, have to force myself to rest my knees, ankles and feet this weekend! There is rain forecast for tomorrow so that should help me stay inside.
Zero walking for me yesterday--I did a communications seminar in reference to my publicity work at church. The presenter was fabulous--great shot in the arm. Another reminder that in this information-filled world, less is truly more.
Today: 13,657 steps--with my friend, solo, and a loop around a county park with DH. Maybe a few more for the big box grocery store, too. Today was our first beautiful day since October (well, I do tend to exaggerate). Sunshine all day with highs in the upper 50's. I had to rescue DH whose lawn mower was hung up in a mole hole (which he had tried to fill first); those little critters apparently had a more difficult winter than we did. I did some weeding and we finally planted our Easter hyacinths. Ahhhhhhh . . .

While I thought I was being cautious with not pushing my fitness routine too fast too soon, my body is telling me that is not the case. My feet and knees are talking to me and I have decided to listen. I will do the last run tomorrow of the C25k (OCD won't let me not do it) and then stick to just walking 3 miles five days a week. I will rest my feet and knees on the weekends. I hate that my head tells me I can do the running but my body says otherwise. But I'm no spring chicken so I will do what is needed.
Ever since, shes harassed me. She's written me up, given me baseless warnings, recorded me on the security cameras, made awful comments, etc. Her bosses have been pretty good to me. They wouldn't let her observe me alone, questioned why she didn't give me a 4 in certain areas when she co-observed me. They made it pretty clear to me that they thought her actions were out of line.
Then this happens: She was on email correspondence between a few colleagues and me. In my quick reply, I had a little grammatical error in my email. An hour after she got my email, she emailed the ENTIRE building about a "contest". She then made a hundred copies of a grammar worksheet and put it in every staff member's mailbox. The grammar worksheet was about the exact error contained in my email. She then offered to pay the first five people who completed it correctly $5. I was so hurt! I couldn't believe she would do something so outrageous. This woman is so sick! Talk about a role model for children. The union basically told me to get over it.
Now, the superintendent is involved in this mess. The principal has hid her face from me for the last week. I don't know if this is because she feels guilty or if its because she's getting some heat from central office.
How would you handle this if you were in such a toxic environment?
As for the SPED part of it, I can see both sides. My main concern is generally that the student get the academic support that they need. If this is with open notes, using a calculator, having the test read to them etc., then often the resource room is the best place for this. Having a test read aloud to them, being the only one in the room using note or a calculator makes my students much more uncomfortable then leaving to take a test.
I often have the opposite problem with some teachers wanting them to stay in class and take the test straight up to "show what they really know". Then they are tasked with doing a retake with me, making corrections etc., which just adds to their work load.
IDEA is one thing, but the implementation of it in the real world is often more of an art than a science.
I decided to complete 3 loops around on the path. Each loop is a little over a mile so I was near 4 miles when I made it back to my car. I decided to do a loop around the parking lot where my car was to get to the 4 mile mark. So my final mileage was 4.02 in 71 minutes.
Since I was close to the shopping center, I decided to buy a new fitness tracker. My dilemma was how fancy I wanted and needed. I opted for one that had a heart rate component but no GPS (use my phone for that) and no call or text capabilities. This new tracker will allow me to count steps and track my sleep patterns. Not to fancy, but fancy than my previous one.
Elaine/ret/INThat fitness tracker will fit right into your propensity to stay abreast of your training, jrod. Convenient how close the shopping center was. ;)
Two walks today. A little bit of light drizzles during the second one. 10,631 total steps. Pizza with the retirees from my school for lunch followed by a massage. Lucky day for me.
