I believe in the dignity of labor, whether with head or hand; that the world owes no one a living but that it owes every person an opportunity to make a living.
Well, it might actually be September . . . a little sweat during the walk. Of course 45F when we woke up feels more like a month from now. 12,156 steps today. Loved the sun and the blue sky. Off to the lake with my Mexican salad for the buffet table.
Yes, the Pumpkinvine Ride is a good one. We ride the trail all the time but have not done the actual ride. It has a several mile stretch of road between the two main trails. We don't ride on the road--we did that section one time. Too many hills; too little berm for us wimps. But, it's a magnificent trail--through wooded areas, through gorgeous farm land, through Middlebury. DH likes the DQ's proximity to the trail, too. ;) Come for the ride next summer; maybe we can pull in a few other Teachers.netters. Are you listening, Bev?
Your job sounds perfect for you. I'm sure your co-teacher is delighted to have you on board--experienced, energetic, loves children, understands education. You two will make a dynamite team!
judycaretI'm here! I walked 3 miles today before it hit 108 degrees. Yes, 108. These are unprecedented numbers for us, horrendous heat wave. For the first time in the 27 years we've lived here, I've left the AC on overnight the last 2 nights. No wonder I'm looking forward to moving back to coastal Southern California.
Fellow teachers. I'm developing an app to help my intermediate students drill verb tenses and auxiliaries. (I used to work in animation programming before i became a teacher).
Anyone who would like to get to try it out and provide feedback about it, email me and I'll send it
Bob R/CAYou posted to the main teachers chatboard. This sounds like a question specific to your state - see the link above for "chatboards" and find your state, and post it there, so people will know which state you mean.
Wow you are checking out websites, teachers world wide love my free classroom clock that helps with classroom management. I've used it for over 25 years and am still using it in my classroom helping with not only time management but also restroom passes. It's free with absolutely no ads. Check out where people are using it around the world on my map. Download it for yourself at http://www.timcraig.com/clock
I have been teaching for two years now and am looking for a change at the end on this academic year. I would like to move to Florida and teach there. I was wondering what channels can one go about doing this?
flackaCheck state board of education website because they usually have the information there. Start preparing now in case there are courses or tests that you need to take. The process usually takes time so it's good that you are looking ahead and getting started now.
I'm a teacher in Bradenton, FL. Like you, I was up north (Ohio) and wanted to move to Florida. But I did this almost 30 years ago and only wish I'd done it earlier before wasting 11 yrs up there. Florida is pretty good with reciprocity but there are tests/courses you may have to take depending on courses required in Canada. Many of your questions can be answered at the Florida Department of Education (fldoe.org).
As you may know, there is a teacher shortage and Florida is accepting almost any degree (not necessarily in education) as long as you agree to get certified in the subject area you are teaching. I doubt you would have any wait. Districts begin hiring as early as May for the following year and I know my district allows interviews via phone. In Florida, each county is a school district so choose your county wisely.
Due to the infinite wisdom of our legislature, there is no longer anything in Florida called tenure unless you were grandfathered in like myself. Districts are no longer permitted to have step raises. They are anti-teacher. I'm not trying to be negative but giving you a heads up on what to expect. Our district (Manatee County) is growing by something like 1,000 students per year and can't build schools fast enough leading to large class size. We do have a cap in all core classes but I teach an elective with 35 students.
Remember, you are moving to where many want to be but don't have what it takes to make the leap and we don't care how it's done up north. We do things different in Florida. We hate hearing, how it's done up north! I can't say that enough.
Good luck with this decision. The district you apply to will be able to answer many of your questions because they regularly hire teachers from out of state.
Tim
