My question involves the formative assessment that needs to be discussed in Component 4, MC/GEN.
I plan on administering a formative assessment according to learning styles. Some students may choose to create a screen cast to show their learning, some will take the formative assessment on paper, some may even take it on the computer, or make a video of themselves.
All formative assessments will assess the same learning targets. However the instructions state to describe the assessment (singular), etc. This is a formative assessment given at the same time, but in at least three to four different modalities.
Do I choose one of them or describe all four on the form. If I am to choose 1, do I mention that three others were given according to preferred learning styles?
I certified CTE, took all 4 components in one year- well, I took C1 last year, but re-took one of the essay questions to raise my score (and did!). I spent every afternoon working and reworking on this from December 2016 to May! I also graduated with my Ed.S in May! I did this basically on my own, as most of the groups did not provide the help needed in my field.
This is do-able, y'all! for those that are still in the process- just stick to the facts- answer only what they ask in detail with evidence!!!
Just wanted to send out a thank you and shout out!!!
I utilized this board to help me find answers to my one million and one questions and concerns I had! And through this board I located what appeared to be a tiny book of hoopla- but in turn it served as the best resource I could have possibly had! Thank you, What Works! Your small but mighty and fierce books helped keep my thinking/writing streamlined!
kennethcooper2Just curious, why would you need to raise your score on a question? Don't you either just pass or fail each component? New at this and trying to figure it out. Thanks.
cathyWhen you retook an essay question, was it one of the questions you had previously? I missed passing by .07 of a point. I scored my best score on 1 so I'm concerned about scoring higher. Any suggestions
I used the score calculator but the scaling weight (SW) numbers aren't making sense to me... Shouldn't they be the percentages we've seen all along? (SRI-20%, CRE1 - 6.67%, etc.)... I'm just not understanding the scoring still I guess... Anyone willing to explain? Is the calculator incorrect?
The scaling weight serves absolutely zero purpose...they should just multiply by the percentage and then if you get a weighted average over 2.63 (the new passing score), you pass that part. (You also need an average of 1.75 on component 1 AND 2-4) Not sure why they are trying to make it convoluted and confusing with odd scales...
My response: Since Science and Social Studies are fully integrated into the Language Arts block in my classroom, this unit teaches students to explore and develop a deeper understanding of the history of immigration in America through reading poems, essays, short stories, dramas, and visual texts.
I could continue to explain the unit it more detail but I don't want to take up too much space on the form since I only have 1 page to answer 3 prompts.
As with many NBCT candidates I struggle to find a balance between being too wordy and not being convincing enough.
I put my scores in the calculator and I am coming dangerously close. I feel little uncomfortable. Does anyone know if the first retakes are free or do we have to pay $475.00 for retakes in our first three years of getting certified?
