I work at a Restitution school. Here we do not believe in rewards to get students to behave. We are not to use the language "If you do this then you'll get that" we are expected to teach the child to want to do the right thing because it is the right thing to do. It has been the only way I know how to manage my class now but it has taken 7 years. My first year I worked at 3 different schools, 2 of which allowed rewards and the one I am currently in. I now work here full time and we use PBIS as our behavior model and we use restitution as well. It can be done, but very difficult if you know anything about PBIS. How do you feel about rewards? Do you feel it makes the child feel entitled to it after doing the expectation? Do you have children that ask for a reward for following through on a direction?

I agree that students should not learn "the right thing to do" because they should, but a little reward can go such a long way. I can especially understand how difficult it must have been for you when you were in multiple schools with different standards. Yikes! For me, I use rewa...See More

Samantha M Molly, yes I do this because of my position. I have worked at this school for 7 years and it is definitely engrained in my teaching style. We recognize positive behavior with letters home, post cards home, or "Ask my why I got this sticker" stickers to encourage conversation at home but it is not to be used in the terms of "if you follow directions...See More
