Elai...See MoreI walked with two friends this morning--1.5 miles. Chatty miles. Not speedy miles. Then, I finished planting my flowers. Yay! I hope our neighbor (the one with the good heart) soon visits with his rototiller so I can plant the garden. Yay--spring is finally here in Indiana.
Only 6842 steps on my trusty (???) little pedometer.
I walked 30 minutes and then planted pots for outdoors. This is my favorite time of year. "Christmas" for the gardener: all is hope; all is well. Blue skies and the first sandals day in forever were just two more Mother's Day kisses for me.
judycaretNo exercise for me today, but I want to say Happy Mother's Day to you all and recommend a book.
Elaine, I started a fabulous new book today. Ten pages in and maybe too California, but I love it: Into the Beautiful North by Urrea. Not new. Have you read it?
Elaine/ret/INJudy, thanks for the book suggestion. I put a hold on it. :) If you're looking for one, I just finished "The Orphan's Tale." I grow weary of WWII stories from Germany, but this one stood out because I loved the circus setting, and I loved the two strong female characters.
I'm sure there's some truth to changing jobs frequently and I'm not looking to change jobs; however if it almost happened to me once it might happen again next year. So I was wondering if any teachers or admin can weigh in on this. Are people with little experience who changed districts not desirable? I'm just worried about the what if of the future and how I can prevent myself from looking 'negative'.
Ho...See MoreYay, walked 90 minutes with a dear friend, yakkety yak. It's perfectly gorgeous here today, clear and 70 degrees. I'm wearing my new $90 Nike shirt that I got for $20 at TJ Maxx. So what if the ice maker (that we use all day every day) stopped working and part of a fence keeled over? I just have to take a deep breath and do what I can.
I was surprised that I was having such a hard time. They also told me that my seat was way too low so I wasn't getting all the power of my legs. So, I learned a lot. We got to an intersection where the group broke up - some to complete the 17 miles and the rest to head back and do 11 miles. Guess which group I went with? Yep, I am not embarrassed to say I took the early route home. Even then, it was a struggle but I made it. The people were wonderful and the free lunch afterwards brought us all together to chat and have fun. I am really glad I went.
I talked to a former teacher pal who is a serious rider outdoors who was there. I told her how surprised I was at how hard it is compared to spinning class. (she goes there, too). She said it is because they focus too much on getting in miles with speed instead of putting on the higher resistance. It made sense. She said two of the instructors had tried this group and they too found out how challenging it was to ride outdoors. I felt better after that.
Grandpa is taking the oldest two now as I write to find bigger bikes. They both outgrew theirs and need a 24 or even 26 inch. I am looking forward to getting them to ride with me again. The bike club I went to this am has shorter distances to help new riders train and learn how to ride in groups. I hope to get the grandkids to do that with me.
I am enjoying my retirement BIG TIME, but I am afraid that I will soon have to buckle down and find a part time job. I am pretty sure which one I am going to go for. That would allow me to have all my free time to enjoy with the grandkids, but bring in some extra cash. I really don't want to start drawing from ss yet and I rolled over my pension and 401K into savings. I am starting to feel the pinch of less income.
So, my day, is great so far. We are going to one of our local fests downtown tonight which I am looking forward to. I have always had to work on weekend nights for so many years so I missed going to these night events.
Keep movin! (and I tried posting twice on my iphone and both times the posts vanished before I could finish writing the post. Evidently, there are still glitches using phones to post.
6428...See MoreGood to see you yesterday, JRod. So fun to come home to extra family and a swim. Love that southern life you lead.
Judy, bet you looked snazzy in that oh-so-expensive Nike shirt. Love TJ Maxx. Ice makers sound better on paper than in the frig; ours is always sulking.
Men, enjoy your "freedom." Love your biking tales.
6428 steps today on a perfect Indiana day. Great meeting of book club. Tried a new tea: Tazo wild orange--yum! Babysitting tonight. Love reading books to those two, though the 7-year-old mostly wants to read his own. He's mostly outgrown picture books.
Circuit workout went well. I increased weights again. My core (from ribs to abdomen) is still pretty sore so the planks and crunches are tough.
For the cardio, I did day 3 of the C25K. My distance is getting better but my pace is not improving like I'd like.
When I got home from the gym, my son, DIL and grandson were here. My grandson wanted to go swimming so we went in. The water was colder than I expected so we only swam for about 30 minutes. After a shower, we went to get a gelato at new place. My son had a chocolate with Jack Daniels and it was so good!
Keep moving!
I miss Shuffletown and his stories about nature and food.
