Also, it seems like referrals only happen (or not) after a posting closes. Is this correct?
What's the difference between a PD Specialist and an ISS? The jobs have similarities so I'm wondering if there's a career progression aspect to the differences. Also, are they both located at the district office? Does one type of position travel more than the other?
SusanAlso, the USA jobs application process does not ask for references and I've seen several posters mention references. Should I attach a list to my application?
Shawna11I applied for both for the PD position as well. I think the biggest difference is the classification of GS 13. It requires the general experience AND two years of specialized experience( common with the GS 13) which differs from the ISS postings. I also think the PD positions will qualify for COLA but not LQA.
RL85We live on post here at Fort Knox. We pay 950 a month for rent and do not have to pay for utilities. DoD civilians are only able to live in certain neighborhoods. Our neighborhood has very old homes, many homes have mold problems along with other issues. We also are not able to utilize the commissary or px.
I'm new to this whole process, but it seems like referrals are very random. Like, three people could have similar certs/ratings, but only 2 of the 3 get a referral....Just my observation
ecd5@haha did you see the list? I did and they were ranked by veteran, military preference, civilian Gov employees, prev DoDEA experience, and everyone else. Not exactly sure how applicants are rated within each category but I assume what I mentioned above plays in.
Curious to know if anyone has had referrals to any locations in Japan for secondary math? And if any one knows how often these positions become available. Would love to be able to reach out there :)
mathgeek@haha Thank you for always responding! I have started looking into courses to add to my certification. Just trying to narrow down which online program would best and subject area to look into.
I know that if I take additional coursework I can possibly be certified to teach other subjects through DoDDs. So that is one option and the second is to get my elementary certification.
Can you guys suggests best online schools to receive additional coursework credit?
hahaFor secondary subjects they usually spell out a certain number of hours needing to be "upper level" (generally 12). Upper level would usually be at least 300/400 level under graduate courses (graduate level will also work for that requirement and would come in handy to qualify for a higher salary lane).
Just tried to login to my application to update some things and the login part looks updated. I logged in with the same info just like I always have and it said it was incorrect. Now my account is locked and I'd have to call HR to unlock it. Anyone else with this problem? I know my info was correct.

I had an interview last week. One of my professors said that he got an email asking him to write a reference about me. What can it mean? I don't want to get my hopes up. Is there a submission deadline?
Do dodea employees get oversea flights to home paid for every year? Also, what is the income tax rate? I'm trying to figure out if teaching overseas would pay more than in Utah. Also, do they hire ISS and assistant principals internally or would my husband have a chance if he's qualified but never worked for dodea?
That's very interesting. Did you question that exclusion? Did they provide a reason?
Just my opinion - if you actually owned a vehicle that met Japan import standards, I bet that HR would have authorized a POV shipment for you.
I'm guessing that as most US vehicles are not eligible or shipment to Japan, that it saves HR trouble if they just exclude vehicle shipment, and then provide amended orders later for that small percentage of employees who own a Japan standard vehicle that is eligible for shipment.
hahaAh, thanks for the firsthand input. I will stop saying the pay/benefits are comparable. It always looked that way from the blurb that was posted on the website. It does make more sense when you realize that they list a salary and say they also offer housing, but don't really spell out that the listed salary INCLUDES the housing allowance).
