I teach resource 4th and 5th. I have both grades for every subject. Math classes are the only ones that are only one grade or the other. My class is small-5-8 depending on the class. I have a couple that come from the EBD room. My students do not get along. My principal says I lack routines and rituals. My question is how do you teach the same subject to two grades at the same time? I feel like I'm not giving enough to the kids because I deal with behavior issues all day. This is my second year in sp. ed. If anyone can give me any ideas of how to teach my groups so that they are all getting what they need, I'd really appreciate it.
haha Ideally you have a para/TA to teach one group while you teach the other. Barring that, you might find that some type of centers/rotation would be useful. If you have/could find related math activities that one group could do independently/semi-independently while you work with the other group then you could possibly get some meaningful instruction ...See More
