Before they were murdered that morning, most people's last words were "I love you", not "I hate you". May we always remember that the power of love is exponentially greater than the power of hate.
Marvale Primary School. A cloudy autumn sky. The day started with three hundred and sixty students and seventeen teachers. It ended with three people missing. Lisa and Jacob Johnstone had suffered a well-documented childhood of neglect and abuse. Everyone agreed that it needed to end. Jessica Bell was a kind and well-respected teacher. A strong and motivated woman, she only wanted the best for her students. Her own history of damage and pain had her believing that running away was the solution they had all been searching for. And so ensued a battle between right and wrong, good and evil, and common sense and the law. Miss Bell was not a bad woman. She was a good teacher. This is her story.
I've received the Proof copy and it's looking beautiful. Printed in San Bernardino, California the novel is filled with gorgeous cream pages and bound by a colour soaked cover. Just what you would expect from such a sunny part of the world. And at four hundred and forty-eight pages, it's a book with a comforting weight, something to keep you company during these lazy days of Spring.
Releasing this story to the world after a gestation period of six years will be like watching my own child wander through the departure gates, ready for the thrill and allure of travel. And hearing your reactions will be like the excitement filled phone calls home.
I have known Jessica Bell a long time and I can't wait for you to meet her too. She will not let you down.
October 15 is the launch date. Available on Amazon and Kindle.
. I feel like I have been watching one of those horror movies that start out so normal and then we the viewers see how the horrible things that are going to happen are building up. However, this isn't a movie or make believe but a true story unfolding before us.
I live in an area where tornados just show up and we often have minutes to get to safety. Often no time to prepare. Having family documenting their thoughts and fears over several days knowing now that they are facing the worst is new to me.
12,040 steps today. Mostly walking with my sister-in-law. We needed to catch up on the week. Beautiful sunshine and perfect sweatshirt-wearing weather. Perfect weather, but one can't help but keep the other eye on those enduring one hurricane and those cleaning up from the other. And, those affected by the wildfires. Scary weather news for sure.
I did speak to program director and director of education. Stated 1. I'm not happy; 2.Will not compromise personal or professional ethics. We all agreed another teacher will take over that class. No work for me this quarter. When I attempted to return the faculty ID they said keep that because we want to use you in the future.
To the reply concerning quality of student I reply: An experiment complected July 2017. Substituted high school student for three months. Conditions were: Must be seniors; Must be taking career courses such as small engine repair, criminal justice, cosmetology, etc. Objective? To find out why my college students think and act as they do in my class. First period / block averaged twenty students. On average one, only one, stands, faces the flag and recites the pledge of allegiance. Homework is done in class rather than at home. Cart travels halls selling snacks, drinks, etc. Naturally food in brought into and consumed in class. Cell phones/smartphone on and several times had to ask students not assigned to my class to please leave the room. New students enter college thinking it's an extension of high school. They honestly feel professors disrespect them when they are recorded absent, asked to silence cell phones, expect them to use time out of class to do homework. Guess not providing test questions and answers is considered disrespectful.
Thanks for your encouragement. We will all agree that many students enter college having traveled the dirt road of life. Upon graduation they enter the interstate, slow traffic keep right, then with bit of experience our graduates move left to the fast lane where dreams come true..
10 miles on the bike was my only formal exercise today Our book club met at an Indian restaurant two towns over to discuss "The Namesake" about an Indian family. Tasty, of course. Then, the four of us in our car visited people we knew in the hospital and a nursing home, so that added a few steps. Totalled to 8,374.
I will be working on the first two components of the National Board Cert this school year. I am a special education teacher working at a high school. If there is anyone who is in a similar situation or can offer any help, that would be great.
