I have been calling HR periodically for the past 2 years, but never knew that I could ask for the person handling my file directly. Thank you for the information haha...
ScholarPerhaps an email with your resume attached? I know they get a printed report of your application but a resume could help you highlight extracurricular activities and other experiences not asked about.
With only SS and no actual experience (student teaching generally does not count) you would be facing very long (but not impossible) odds of getting hired. You would be much better off after getting a job stateside, honing your craft for a few years and adding some certification areas (based on DoDDS requirements).
DoDDS principals...See MoreYou should definitely fill out the EAS application and see what areas DoDDS considers you qualified in (or possibly wait until you get your master transcript). They only accept college credit hours and not state certifications (except that having a state cert means you only need half of the credit hours normally required).
DoDDS principals will generally want at least a few years of successful teaching experience before they would seriously consider you.
A combination of English and History would be good certs to have if you get qualified by DoDDS to teach Middle and High School.
Snow LaneDid you update your transcripts and certification? I made the mistake of reusing them each year for a while there and apparently you have to reupload them every single year. Don't know if that will help, but it made a difference for me.
koreatchrMy principal last year explained the whole process to me last year and showed me a quick glance at a referral list. I hope this helps...When a principal has a vacancy, they go into the applicant system and type in the criteria that they want. For example, let's use third grade with 3 years of experience. The system will pull up all of the applicants that meet the criteria. Each applicant will be assigned a score from HR from let's say 1-200 with 200 being the highest. The highest score on the list I saw was 180. This score is assigned from HR and is based upon veterans status, military spouse preference, education, certifications etc. When this list gets pulled, it sometimes triggers the referral emails. The principal then decides how many applicants to interview. My principal likes to interview 5 applicants pulling from the top, middle, and bottom of the list. He said he likes to get a "broad view" as he calls it. He asks the prescribed Dodea interview questions (you can find them on the forum) and then he chooses who he'd like to hire. My principal said he likes to hire based on who he thinks would be a good fit for our school based on skills the applicant has, what skills are needed in our school, the applicant's personality (he said he can tell when people truly love working with kids or the paycheck), and whether he thinks they will get along well with the teachers already working at the school. There is a lot to the hiring process. Don't lose hope. It is still really EARLY in the hiring process!!!
Just wondering... if I place a call to HR, do I just ask the person answering the phone if I can speak to the individual that is handling my file. What is the protocol in getting this accomplished?
Why does my offer reflect the 2015-2016 salary scale? Is there no 2016-2017 scale, or was there no raise? Also, I'm awaiting confirmation of the 10 years experience in my district, which will substantially raise my salary. Has there ever been problems getting them to credit the experience and giving the correct salary after the fact?
EuxpatI believe the salary adjustment for the current school year comes after they take an average of teacher salary raises from representative stateside schools of similar size.
They will correct your salary schedule once they get proof.
For everyone applying, you are better off having all of your current/past schools/districts completing the forms and having them on hand for if/when an offer ever comes through. We carried our around with us for years but when we needed them they were ready to go.
Sorry, but any comments that have been written won't show up and unable to retrieve. I am really wanting to hear what people have to say. Please re-comment if you would.
SpedTeacher74I do know that I have had one person doing my qualifications review and emailing me. She must be the one that handles my file because she's the only one I've talked to. That's good to know.
